Assassin’s Creed next installment is set in Victorian-era London: Reports

Yes it is almost official, Ubisoft exposed in its latest community livestream that Future Assassin’s Creed installments will focus more on modern timelines, reported SegmentNext.

Darby McDevitt, one of the lead writers on the series, said that there’s plenty of inspiration to be derived from the modern timeline of Brotherhood’s town of Monteriggioni. He also mentioned that the initial plan with Assassin’s Creed: Unity was to include a little more modern day setting.

“The thing with Unity was that it was a completely fresh game on a completely fresh generation. So creating any kind of modern day is a pretty huge ask. To create a city, for instance, or even part of a city, would require six months of work by many, many artists, designers, modellers. And then you’d need gameplay systems that didn’t feel like you were just fencing.”

Unlike previous entries in the series where players could explore larger areas and puzzles, Assassin’s Creed: Unity didn’t have any playable modern day settings. Ubisoft looks to correct this with future installments.

Lastly, McDevitt mentioned that he and the other writers have been working on compiling a complete history of the franchise’s First Civilization. The team has so far successfully managed to write 500-700 years worth of “history that we hope to start teasing out.”

Assassin’s Creed: Victory is the next installment in the franchise and is set in Victorian-era London. Details are still yet to be revealed, but the game will be eying a release later this fall.
