Wildlands Fallen Ghosts (DLC) – Review

Wildlands Fallen Ghosts (DLC) – Review

Ubisoft has been absolutely killing it this year with Ghost Recon Wildlands. Even 7 months after release, Wildlands remains the number one seller this year, and that’s no easy feat. There have been some really good games released in 2017, specially during the first few months and Wildlands sure had tough competition. Ubisoft’s open world formula with its chaotic online component and dense maps have been keeping players engaged for tens, if not hundreds of hours.

While we ourselves have had a blast with the base game, the new DLC, Fallen Ghosts, brings in some major changes and updates, and is a clear indicator that Ubisoft has big things in mind for Wildlands. Gone are the days of annualized installments, this is Ubisoft building massive games that will last over years powered by excellent DLC content and regular updates.

Fallen Ghosts sets new rules for the players right from the start. The DLC is set in a separate part of the map, and you are required to build a new level 30 character. Soon after, new enemy types are introduced that force you to use thermal vision and more advanced tactics for survival. This is a significantly tougher DLC and you will need to adapt fast and get creative with everything at your disposal. There are 9 new skills and you’ll need all of them sooner rather than later. The new enemies feel hands down bad ass at first – they can cloak to turn invisible – and you need thermals to track them. A later unlockable skill, Reaction Marking, comes in handy as it automatically marks anyone who shoots at you, making it easier to spot them.

However, spotting your enemies is the just the beginning. New changes to advanced and expert difficulties offer tougher challenges for those who are so inclined. Having your friends along is always the best way to play Wildlands, and Fallen Ghosts is no different. But if you decide to go solo, the AI teammates will be by your side – unlike in the Narco Road DLC.

My only gripe with Fallen Ghosts is that I was forced to create a new character. I kind of miss my female Solid-Snake-looking character from the base game, but I can imagine this being a done to ease in newcomers with a level 30 character. They should have atleast had the new area be connected to the main map, and also have PvP. But in recent announcements, Ubisoft has confirmed that PvP is coming soon to Wildlands.

Ghost Recon Wildlands is fun, a lot of fun. And Fallen Ghosts more than adds to it. With 15 new missions and 4 new bosses, this is a content packed DLC that is worth your time and money.
