Even though the Wii is without a doubt Nintendo’s top-selling console, recent talks have indicated that production of the device is likely to come to a close.
It was revealed on the official Nintendo Japan Wii website that Wii “manufacturing is scheduled to end soon.” No date has been confirmed as of now, and it still remains unclear whether this end in production of the Wii only applies to Japan or to the rest of the world as well.
As Engadget points out, this decision should come as little surprise. It’s been nearly a year since Nintendo released the Wii’s successor, and since then, pretty much turned its efforts towards the new machine. Further, the Wii U has been able to play Wii games since day one. Its most recent update even allows players to enjoy Wii software on the new system’s portable GamePad screen.
