Every gamers knows how good Razer is when it comes to gaming hardware. So when we heard about them coming out with a smartphones for gamers, we were obviously very interested. While they have been tight lipped so about what the phone would be like, there’s been a recent leak that gives us a sneak peek at the specs and some of the design choices. In a recent inter view with CNBC, Min-Liang Tan, CEO and co-founder of Razer, discussed the future of Razer products and had some interesting information to give out. While he avoided saying smartphone outright, he did mention that they were working on a new mobile device for gaming. “And I can say that we are coming up with a mobile device specifically geared toward gamers and entertainment.” Tan also stated that they are hoping for a 2017 release, which means we might hear more about it in the upcoming months. According to a report by Bloomberg, Razer is interested in making a smartphone for gamers. Earlier this year, Razer had acquired the smartphone company Nextbit, so this news doesn’t come as a surprise. The company is planning an IPO in Hong Kong, potentially valuing its business at USD 5 billion. Some of the funds will be directed by Razer towards the development of its smartphone. At the time of the acquisition, Razer had said that Nexbit would function as an independent entity, but we can’t be sure whether the new phone will launch under the Razer or the Nextbit name.
