Resident Evil VII Cracked In Just 5 Days, Bad Days Ahead For Denuvo

Resident Evil VII has been out for just a week, and the game has already been cracked and pirated. While it’s not uncommon for games to be cracked this early, what’s different about Resident Evil VII is that it had been protected by Denuvo anti-tamper, which usually takes a long time to break through.

Thomas Goebl, director of sales at Denuvo, said, “The general positioning of our product is ‘hard to crack’ and not ‘uncrackable’. For us it is important to secure the initial sales window of games, which worked out well on all the recent titles.”

He does make a good point, because the maximum sales for a game usually happens during the launch window. And for the most part, Denuvo had been successful in preventing pirates from breaking the Denuvo protection this soon. Even games like Far Cry Primnal took almost a year to crack, while Just Cause 3 is still going strong. However, some of the rexcent releases being protected by Denuvo have been cracked alarmingly early, including games like Watch Dogs 2, and Deus Ex Mankind Divided.

Denuvo has also been claimed to cause issues with PC performance, and even do damage to PC hardware at times, though it has gotten better over time.
