One of the things in Halo 5: Guardians for which Microsoft had to face criticism for was the lack of split-screen. Hopefully, the publisher seems to have learned from its mistakes, confirming that the next Halo game (Halo 6 or whatever it will be called), will definitely have split-screen support.
The news was confirmed by 343 Industries’ Executive Bonnie Ross, during a speech at DICE 2017. She said that not including split-screen was one of the painful learnings that Microsoft had to face after they overtook the Halo franchise from Bungie. She continued, “”For any FPS going out forward, we will always have split-screen in.
Ross also admitted that the rough launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection was another “painful learning” for Microsoft. Previously, the company had referred to it as a black eye for the developer.
The lack of split-screen was partially due to the game’s 60 FPS frame rate. 343 Industries had made the decision to run Halo 5 at a locked frame rate of 60 FPS, with the understanding that it would end up creating up some issues and technical impossibilities for the rest of the game. The reason for this had been explained by the fact that number of people who play Halo in split-screen is very small compared to the game’s total player base.
As of yet, no new Halo title has been announced yet. Recently, Phil Spencer had suggested that the next FPS in the franchise will not be released this year, which doesn’t come as a surprise, considering that Halo 5 isn’t even two years old. Still, it’s good to see the devs trying to make some amends in response to the fans’ feedback.
