Microsoft’s Chairman Bhaskar Pramanik and Director Vineet Durani introduced India to Windows 10 at Pragati Maidan today. Microsoft billed it as the “Best Windows Ever” and also said that it’s the last numbered Windows as from now on they will update Windows “Every few months”. What’s more, the Start Button and Menu are back, but wear a slick new coat of paint.
Windows 10 is significantly different from the traditional Windows: It’s provided as a free upgrade for one. And unlike previous generations of Windows, the same OS runs across all devices that run Windows, from toaster ovens to hyper computers (yes, Smart toasters are actually a thing now), with the same apps. The Modern apps now scale according to devices and run on most devices that run W10 (barring, of course, the devices without screens). Cortana is also a major feature of the new OS, and is built into the Internet Explorer’s replacement, the Microsoft Edge browser.
But what about the gaming features, I hear you ask? Well, MS has made remarkable tweaks to the Xbox app, and it now streams games from the Xbox One. I tried it first hand (over a wired network) and am happy to say it runs flawlessly with an almost imperceivable input lag. (I played The Master Chief Collection and Forza).
Windows 10 also has multiple workspaces like in Linux and the Superbar now resembles the OS X dock even more. They also beefed up Windows Defender even more and now offer “enterprise grade security” measures for passwords and codes. W10 also supports biometric passwords.
All in all, it is a worthy upgrade that you should get. As soon as they polish the beta issues, that is.
