According to Official PlayStation Magazine, GTA V’s PS4 version is set to run at 1080p resolution. This news was revealed during a pre-launch preview of the game in the magazine’s latest issue.
“Farewell, 720p. You served your purpose adequately enough. Still, our eyes have been gagging for 1080p’s pin-sharp pleasures and the Los Santos sandbox is only too happy to oblige on PS4, running at a native 1920 x 1080 pixels. For a game erected on hundreds of tiny incidental details, the resolution bump is a huge game-changer for GTA V.”
And they have a reason to be so hyped up about this. The magazine mentions that the textures are now “ridiculously” detailed. For instance, you can see separate screws on certain vehicles. Also the draw distance has been “massively increased”, making buildings and vehicles visible from miles away.
Before GTA 5’s PS4 and Xbox One release, Rockstar had made a lot of the new-gen versions’ visual enhancements. They had promised new weather and damage effects. The foliage throughout Los Santos and Blaine Counties has been improved to be more realistic. The new consoles can also support more vehicles on-screen at the same time.
All this good news remains within the confines of the PS4 as Rockstar Games hasn’t confirmed the resolution for the Xbox One version yet. It shouldn’t be too long a wait for the Xbox One to be officially announced.
GTA 5’s PS4 and Xbox One versions will feature new content including all of GTA Online’s post-launch updates, which included a mission editor and new jobs, will ship with those versions. PS4 and Xbox One gamers can also look forward to more weapons, activities and vehicles.
Owners of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will be able to import their GTA Online characters over to either new-gen version. They’ll also unlock exclusive content in the game for upgrading. These extras include classic vehicles, shooting range challenges, and wildlife photography.
The Xbox One and PS4 editions of GTA 5 are due on November 18th. The similarly upgraded PC version will follow in January with exclusive video editing tools.
