I’m a huge fan of the Gears of War video game franchise, and as much as I wanted to see more games developed, I don’t think it will ever happen. You know what is happening though? A remaster for the Xbox One.
The game will include upgraded lighting and texture graphics and will run at 60 frames per second. The cinematics are also being recreated by an animation studio named Plastic Wax.
The news was confirmed by Kotaku, who says “three different people playing tonight’s test build tell us that it’s just the first Gears of War. This test build is multiplayer-only, featuring the following modes: Team Deathmatch; King of the Hill; 1 Life 1V1 Shotgun TDM; 1v1 Sudden Death Gnashers Only; 4v4 TDM Single Round; and 4v4 KOTH Single Round.”
There were rumors that the Gears of War game collection would be coming to the console, but it looks like they are just working on the first game…for now. Who knows what the future plan of the franchise will be, but I image that if this first one does well then maybe we’ll see more. Maybe it will even pave the way for a new chapter.
Xbox head Phil Spencer talked about Gears of War last year, saying that Microsoft was looking to get back to basics with the franchise:
“The thing that was great about the early Gears of War games, to me, was just the epic scale of the settings that I was in. The story, the setting was a lot more what I would call soulful and maybe even a little dark. I think the game over time became almost more of a parody of itself; not for any kind of horrible reasons. It’s hard to continue to manage the IP.”
Can you believe that Gears of War turns 10 years old in 2016!? I can’t believe it has been that long. Seems like just yesterday that I was spending long sleepless night fighting the Locust Horde, and yelling obscenities at other gamers I was playing against. Good times!
