During a recent livestream for Gears of War 4, Rod Fergusson from The Coalition confirmed that the game is officially getting a movie.
A collaboration between Microsoft and Universal, the movie is still in very early stages and according to Fergusson, they’re not ready to announce a director or writer for the project. No further details were shared regarding the movie.
However, he did shed some light on the movie. Fergusson said that rather than copying over a story from the Gears game, their aim is to make the best Gears movie possible, whether it follows the story in the games or not. Earlier in July, when asked about the possibility of a movie, he said, “There is some stuff going on that I can’t talk about today, but I’ll possibly be talking about that stuff very soon. I’m very excited about what the future holds.”
Back in 2007, New Line Cinema had purchased the rights to make a movie based on Gears of War 4, but the project had development troubles and there has been no progress ever since. Gears of War 4 is set to release for the Xbox One and Windows PC on 11th October. It features the Play Anywhere feature, meaning if you purchase a digital copy from the Windows Store, you can play it both on the console and the PC.
