Games With Gold–August 2014

Games With Gold–August 2014

The summer vacations are pretty much done and now you’ll can look forward to getting back to the grind be it work or school. Sure we’re all super excited to getting back to our regular routine, but there are just a few of us who still are in vacation mode and don’t want to get off our lazy asses! And now here is another reason for us to sit back down on our couches, especially for Xbox Live Gold members.

For the month of August we’ve got Crimson Dragon and ID@Xbox space-sim Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut coming to Games with Gold on Xbox One, while the Xbox 360 gets both Motocross Madness and the hit first-person stealther Dishonored. And as expected these games are only up for a limited time period, so make the most of it while you can.

Crimson Dragon

With a time limit of Aug. 1-31, Crimson Dragon, which was  originally an Xbox One launch title, in many ways can be seen as a spiritual successor to the Panzer Dragoon saga. This rail shooter is set in a beautiful fantasy world, where in you can join forces with up to three other players for online co-op battles. You have six majestic draconian steeds to choose from, and they level up as you progress through the game’s epic story.

Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut

Another game available for the same time limit is Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut was funded by Kickstarter and is the first title from the ID@Xbox program. You assume the role of a pilot of the titular suit, flying it against aggressors in epic space battles. Amidst all this action you realize you are just a small part of the battle while huge ships are swerving around you. With fantastic ship design, gigantic battles, and plenty of weapons and enemies to deal with, Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut gives space-sim fans on Xbox One plenty to chew on.

Motocross Madness

Available Aug. 1-15, Xbox 360 gamers get explore their dirt biking skills on tracks filled with mud pits and a whole lot of stunts with Motocross Madness, an off-road motorcycle racing game. Racing doesn’t fully define this game as there are various tricks that one can perform as a rider and run through obstacle courses, or just motor around big maps and explore as you please.

Dishonored

And finally, Xbox 360 owners get to play Dishonored, an award wining stealth/action title, which is available from Aug. 16-31. Gamers take the role of Corvo, erstwhile bodyguard of the Empress, turned assassin. You have to protect the princess, take out the bad guys who are trying to take over the Empire, and do it all without being detected. You will have with you an arsenal of gadgets, weapons, and magical powers to help you, but the most important is your own brain. Challenges in Dishonored often have multiple solutions, so lateral thinking is more important than a quick trigger finger. You can go ape-shit on people’s asses but then you’ll learn that cleverness is awarded more than brute force.
