The recently released RPG by Larian Studios, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is taking the world by the storm. In just a span of 18 days, the game boasts of a total of 650,000 sales. To put things in perspective, it took the original Divinity: Original Sin three months to sell the same number of copies.
The game is at an all-time high on the Steam charts, selling over 420,000 copies on Steam alone. After just four days, according to the studio, sales crossed the 500,000 mark between Steam and GOG.com. And as the game’s popularity increases, these numbers will only grow. A majority of game reviewers have given Divinity: Original Sin 2 the title of a classic, with Gamespot calling it “one of the most captivating RPGs ever made.”
Why this feat is incredibly impressive is because the game is a cRPG, which is quite a niche genre compared to others. It rose to the top of Steam charts within 24 hours, which isn’t something anyone was expecting from this type of a game. To its strengths, Divinity: Original Sin 2 offers the players a plethora of choices, has a fully integrated co-op mode and is a phenomenal sequel to the first title. So much so, it even knocked PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds off the top spot. Who would’ve seen that coming?
