As someone who plays a ton of multiplayer games on my PS4 with friends, I’ve come to appreciate what a boon a good pair of headsets can be. The pack-in earphones that Sony gives with the PS4 is of a horrendously low quality, and playing games with that plugged in was a terrible experience. And, maybe it’s me, but I never liked in-ear headsets for gaming, given how often they tend to fall off, and their sub-par audio quality. And the mics on them would also catch a ton of ambient noises, annoying those who were on the receiving end of it.
Later experience with over-the-ear headsets were also uneven, with spotty mic and audio quality. It’s finally with USB connected headsets that I finally found a satisfactory experience, but even those had lengthy cables strewn across the room, since they connect directly to the console itself, instead of the controller. I knew that I was getting closer to the right solution, but wasn’t entirely there.
And that’s when HyperX came into the picture. I had always had a great experience with HyperX headsets, but most of them had been primarily aimed at PC gamers. It’s only now that they have come out with the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Console Gaming Headset, a premium headset made for console gamers. It’s a ‘First’ from HyperX to have a headset mainly for PS4 lovers, seen clearly in its ‘blue-white’ packaging. A nifty single unit 3.5mm jack can be plugged straight to the controller, and the headset sits comfortably on your head with soft padding at the top and around the ears.
The rubber cable sports a volume dial, and a mute button for the mic. The mic itself can be adjusted to make sure it catches just your voice and drown out most of the ambient noise. The HyperX Cloud Stinger Core headset is surprisingly light, and I would barely feel it on my head even after long hours of gaming. However, even with it’s light weight, the headset is really sturdy, and boasts an exceptional build quality, for a price of just Rs. 3,245/-
I have been using the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core for almost a month now, and there’s no looking back. I am no audiophile but the 40mm directional drivers and closed-cup design make for an immersive gaming experience. My friends have repeatedly asked me which headset I use, given how clear my voice sounds when I am using it. I have been playing a lot of Far Cry 5 in co-op lately, and weapon sounds are absolutely phenomenal with these headsets.
Also, I have been using these headsets while playing PUBG mobile, and the experience has been great on smartphones as well. The plug-and-play nature of these headsets, and their ease of use have made the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core my go to headsets for gaming, be it on console or mobile.
The minimalist look and design also goes a long in contributing the premium look of the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core. The dark grays are accentuated by the blues, and logos are also subdued, making for a really clean and elegant look. The mic can be neatly tucked away to the top if you just want the game audio, though I do wish they were detachable.
To top it off, HyperX is offering a full 2 years of warranty on the headset.
If you’re in the market looking to upgrade to good pair of headsets on a budget, the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core might just be what you’re looking for.
