Review: Samsung Galaxy J Max Tablet

The Samsung Galaxy J Max is the one of the latest additions to the Samsung tablet family.

It is powered by a quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex A7 processor and features 8 GB internal memory with 1.5 GB RAM, and a microSD slot with expandable memory upto 128 GB. The primary camera is 8 MP, comprising of an f/1.9 aperture lens while the front camera is about 2 MP. The Tablet comes with all the basic Android functionalities, including WiFi, Bluetooth, voice calling and 4G. It has a non-removable 4000 mAh battery, which ensures at least a 24 hours of average usage including internet browsing and multimedia.

With a 7-inch screen at a resolution of 800×1280 and 216PPI pixel density, the tab weighs about 289 g and comes with dual SIM capabilities.

The tab has a plastic back cover with a texturized grip, which features the camera, speakers and a single LED flash light. The front looks like a typical Samsung mobile device, with the signature Menu, Home and Back keys at the bottom. The build quality is surprisingly good for the price that it comes at. It’s a bit on the heavy side, but with the textured back, and how well it’s grips to your hands, the phone almost has a premium feel to it.

The Samsung J Max tablet comes with Android OS 5.1.1 Marshmallow, and it hasn’t been revealed whether it will get an update for Marshmallow. However, as most of the devices released this year will get the Marshmallow update, it seems unlikely that the J Max will be left unsupported. It has an internal storage of 8GB, out of which 3.8 GB is available to the user. This is something which could have been better, as the space isn’t quite enough.

The 8 MP primary camera is satisfactory, but you shouldn’t keep your hopes high, as the focus of the J Max is to give you a big screen multimedia experience at a low price point. Though the central focus of the device isn’t aimed at gaming, you can still run fun titles like Clash of Clans, Mini Militia and Clash Royale easily. You can also play AAA titles like Asphalt, or Deus Ex GO, which makes it a decent all-round device, perfect for someone who likes their stuff on the move.

For a price about INR 13000-14000 /- the Samsung Galaxy J Max forms a decent device that provides you a good daily multimedia experience without having to spend a lot. All in all, the tab is a great device for those who don’t rely on heavy, intensive apps that use a lot of resources.
