Its Teacher’s Day and while we all have our own respective teachers to give thanks to for imparting knowledge and tolerating us, there are some other teachers we must also celebrate. These teachers have been a part of our lives from the very beginning, shaped our childhoods and will live on for generations to come.
Charles Xavier, X-Men
Professor Charles Francis Xavier, popularly known as Professor X, is hands down the best teacher in the past, present and future of the Marvel Universe. He has taught and guided generations of mutants at his Xavier’s School of Gifted Youngsters. He is the founder and the leader of the X-Men and his dream of peaceful co-existence between mutants and humanity has long been the driving force for the X-Men. An immensely powerful telepath and scientific genius, Xavier was among the world’s greatest masterminds and even after his death, his memories and dreams motivated the School and the X-Men to fight for a world that feared and hated them.
Severus Snape, Harry Potter
Despite his coveted, multi-faceted, tragic storyline, one cannot deny that Severus Snape was one bad-ass teacher. Sure, he didn’t get the Defense Against the Dark Arts post as long as Dumbledore was alive (only because Dumbledore knew how good *The Half Blood Prince* was at that as well) but as the Potions Master says, “I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even put a stopper on death.” From being the worst teacher of all time, Snape, portrayed by the late Alan Rickman in the movies, clearly made it to Teacher No. 1 position, by the end of the Harry Potter series.
Walter White, Breaking Bad
Well yeah, his classes were quite dull – even if he did have open flames in his class – but one cannot deny that Mr. White knew his subject. Sure, he stole lab equipment and kept his burner phone in the classroom ceiling, but hey! He did turn his former flunkie student into his protégé, and taught us that when you see that someone has the potential to do great things, you shouldn’t let silly little drug lords get in the way. That is what makes Walter White one of Best Teachers until date.
Dewey Finn, School of Rock
Jack Black’s character in School of Rock is your dream substitute teacher. Not only did Dewey Finn bring in a lot of Rock & Roll into the classroom, but he didn’t do math! Sounds perfect to me! He ended up creating a rock star band at an uptight private school and in the process teaching students much more than what books ever could – valuable life lessons such as “You’re not hardcore unless you live hardcore!”
Jaqen H’ghar, Game of Thrones
Jaqen H’ghar is a mysterious assassin, with a great skill in changing appearances, who Arya Stark encounters early on in the Game of Thrones saga, as a prisoner. She helps him escape and later he returns the favour, before he leaves and disappears for a few seasons. Jaqen H’ghar reappears at the House of Black and White in Braavos and teaches Arya how to be an assassin like him, a Faceless Man. A strict teacher (I mean, he takes away her eyesight!) but a good one, it is suggested that the master of disguise is none other than Syrio Forel, Arya’s sword teacher and “water dancer”.
