Starting 22nd September 2016, people looking to join the Playstation Plus community may need to check their wallets for an extra bit of cash.
If you sign up for the membership on or after 22nd September, you’ll have to pay $59.99 for a year long subscription. This is a $10 increase from the current price of $49.99 of membership. The monthly subscription in the US will stay at the price of $9.99, but the Canadian membership will go up to $11.99 CAD.
Here is what the original blog post announcing the increase in membership price says, “The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members. As a member, you will continue to enjoy the benefits and features that enable shared experiences, such as online multiplayer, free games, and exclusive discounts. You will also continue to get exclusive benefits such as online game save storage and discounts across the PlayStation digital services.”
Sony has said that there will be no disruption to present services as they imply this change in the pricing. This is the first time an increase in the Playstation Plus membership fee has been seen, since the program launched along with the Playstation 3 in June 2010.
