Telltale’s has cultivated a reputation for coming up with intense, story driven adaptations of our favourite movies and TV shows, with titles like Game of Thrones, The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead. Joining the episodic ranks will be Batman: The Telltale Series, planned to release this year.
Though we’ve heard quite a bit about the game over the past few months, there is still a lot that we don’t know about it. The game will let you control both Bruce Wayne and Batman, and you can get a feel of both the dynamics. The first episode will be out on August 2nd, and will feature iconic characters like Alfred, Harvey Dent, Jim Gordon and the Catwoman.
Batman: The Telltale Series feels like a typical Telltale adventure game, but this time they’re adding a new multiplayer feature, allowing the player to involve other players in the decision making process. This new feature was revealed at San Diego Comic Con this year. “Now, from two to 2,000-plus people can help the player make decisions,” Telltale’s communications boss, Job Stauffer, said. “We are now turning all of Telltale’s games into a live interactive multiplayer experience”
Batman will be the first Telltale game to to support this new mode. When turned on, it provides you with a URL that can be used by other people to participate in your game. Viewers can give their in the form of a thumbs up or thumbs down, and vote for the dialogue option they want you to pick. Additionally, you can set the game to pick the most voted decision, or keep it manual so you still have the final say.
This new feature will surely come as a delight for streamers and events like Twitch Plays. However, we can’t say how much of an impact it will have on the single player experience, should you choose to go for it. Stauffer also mentioned that latency might be an issue, at least initially.
Batman: The Telltale Series is supposed to debut its first episode on August 2nd, for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS and Android. Telltale has plans to wrap up the entire season by the end of the year, but only if it doesn’t happen at the cost of quality. Check out the trailer for the game below.
