Twitch, Amazon’s game streaming service is getting more social. The new “Friends” feature teased in April has now launched into beta, allowing users to search for, add, and view a list of friends, see when they’re online, and easily chat with them. The social network released whispers last year, which had the community sending over 300 MILLION whispers.
Adding Friends
By using the new search bar in the left hand navigation to locate your friend and send a request. You’ll also see a list of recommended friends for you based on who you have interacted with in the past so you can easily find the people on Twitch you interact with most.
The Friends List
Once your Twitch Friend accepts your request, you’ll be able to see when they are online and send a whisper with just one click! Now when you send a whisper you’ll know your friend is around to respond and not wasting their life “outside”.
Friend requests also double as a beta invitation, granting the recipient of your request their Friends List and beta invite powers of their own.
The invites are spreading across the Twitch community like wildfire and at the end of the beta the social network plans to roll out Friends to all of Twitch. So even if you’re not in the initial beta pool, you’ll have access soon.
