Rocket League, Psyonix’s wildly successful combination of cars and soccer, is apparently trading the pitch for the court, based on a tease tweeted by the developer last night. Yes, basketball is coming to Rocket League.
Psyonix tweeted the teaser image last night, hinting that a “Rocket League Hoops” mode is in the works, just in time for the NCAA college basketball tournament:
March Madness is just around the corner. Great time to tease the mode we’re working on next #RocketLeagueHoopspic.twitter.com/rrlEnnFhby

While soccer has been the game of choice since Rocket League — and its predecessorSupersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars — launched, Psyonix has also flirted with another sport: hockey. The developer swapped the soccer ball for a hockey puck as part of Rocket League‘s “Snow Day” Mutator Mode. The switch to basketball looks like it might have a bigger impact on gameplay, since it appears that players will have to toss the ball into a basket instead of a goal.
