The Bioware team developing the next Mass Effect game, Mass Effect Andromeda has lost yet another core member from their team, this time being their lead writer, Chris Schlerf. As confirmed on Twitter by Schlerf, he left Bioware to join Bungie, the team developing Destiny.
He had been with Bioware for almost two years before which hee worked at 343 Industries on Halo 4, who are the same folks working on Destiny.
Schlerf’s LinkedIn page contains some possible hints about Andromeda, which he described in his tweets as a game that will “blow people away,”.
A few months ago, near the end of 2015, another high-ranking Andromeda developer, senior producer Chris Wynn, left BioWare. He has since joined H1Z1 developer Daybreak Games.
Does this bode ill for the upcoming Mass Effect game? Losing a lead writer is never a good thing, and Schlerf had worked on the narratives for some of the most beloved characters in the Mass Effect Trilogy. On the other hand, this might mean that Destiny 2, or whatever is next for that game, might have some story to boot all them pretty graphics and excellent gunplay. Destiny players have surely been left wanting for content.
