Cliff Bleszinksi has revealed the first details about his upcoming free-to-play arena shooter, previously known as Project Bluestreak.
During a livestream today, the Gears of War creator revealed the upcoming game, which is due out some time in 2016, will be called LawBreaker.
At the heart of the shooter are three pillars: guns, gangs and gravity. LawBreakers is set years after a cataclysmic event called The Shattering rocked the world. Humanity interfering with the world caused gravity to go haywire, with seas churning and the earth cracking.
Rather than taken place in the post-apocalyptic wasteland that followed, however, LawBreakers will be set after everything has been rebuilt and humanity has moved on. The one key difference is that gravity is still completely messed up, meaning jet packs, gravity fields, grappling hooks and more will play a huge role in the game where verticality was a major focus for the team. Bleszinksi stressed, “You won’t want to be on the ground.”
A variety of weapons will be available, including energy guns. The gang aspect comes as all of the world’s criminals band together into one massive faction called The Breakers after The Shattering to traffic narcotics and benefit from this new world order. In response, all the world’s law agencies also pool their resources to fight back. So it’s The Law versus The Breakers. Hence the name.
