While Witcher 3 has garnered praise from all quarters. Even the upcoming Mass Effect game’s trailer at the now concluded E3 2015 featured a western-style song. Which apparently had a lot to do with the game’s story. Reportedly, it also links to CD Projekt RED’s “The Witcher 3”
A tweet by Yanick Roy of BioWare Montreal. The lead is supplemented by a Reddit survey leak that was popularized about three months ago.
Intrigue emerged when one “Mass Effect” fan asked Roy if he could change the E3 trailer’s Johnny Cash theme to something more befitting of the franchise’s typical soundtrack. The industry figurehead replied by saying “there are very good reasons for that choice of song for the trailer that should become clear later on.”
This statement sent the game’s fans into a frenzy of analysis, and much of it ties back to an increasingly valid leak. For those that haven’t heard Cash’s “Ghost Riders In The Sky” before, it tells the story of an explorer who comes across a group of hellish spirits. The wanderer tries to follow them, but they tell him to change his ways so that his life doesn’t become as miserable as theirs.
The ghost riders mentioned in the lyrics might also reference the “cut-throat outlaws and warning alien races” that exist in these uncharted lands. The song’s spirits offer a warning to turn back just like certain races might.
The major hitch in this linkage, however, is that the trailer doesn’t feature the game’s main protagonist. In this case, maybe we’re seeing another member of their team. It could also be an associate of the outlaw group as well. Despite altercation, the suited figure escapes unscathed.
“Ghost Riders” has been previously described as a retelling of the 1835 “Wild Hunt” legend. The same story could have inspired “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” as well. In all cases, groups of horsemen take to the skies to warn of impending doom. This, again, ties back to the leak.
