Jotun is an indie game which is developed by Thunder Lotus Games and will be released thanks to a successful crowd funding. Here are 5 reasons why you should get it.
The Art
The biggest unique factor and the best thing in the game is its art, the game looks beautiful thanks to the great looking hand drawn frame-by-frame animation.
The Setting
Jotun is set in Norse Mythology where you play as Thora, a Norse warrior who died an inglorious death and must prove herself to the Gods to enter Valhalla. You must face gigantic Norse Titans and defeat them in order to do so. Are you going to rise up to the challenge for the glory of Valhalla ?
Epic Boss Battles
The bosses in Jotun look epic, each with their unique terrifying look and abilities. For example, there is a nature giant that feels like Ursula from The Little Mermaid made entirely out of living tress and vines. And that’s not all. Each boss can take from 10-15 minutes. Which if lost the battle will result in player having to start the battle again. Seems exciting doesn’t it.
Level design
Level design is really well done and non-linear . Players once defeat the first boss, are free to choose where to go next there is no specific order to follow, but before the unlocking the next boss, the player will have to get 2 runes.
Jotun rewards exploration hence if you decide to take your time and explore the area, you could be very well rewarded with new abilities or with Apples of Ithunn which basically extends the health bar of Thora.
Combat
The combat in Jotun while being simple is still rather satisfying. For example, there is normal attack, heavy attack and abilities which as I said if you take your time and explore can be learned/unlocked. Also, instead of mana bar, in Jotun players are limited to use the skills/abilities twice. After that you would have to replenish them back these special fountains found throughout the game’s areas and if you are looking to heal yourself before the boss fight at a fountain.
You will find that you can’t use it more than once without leaving the area and returning. Sounds difficult? It sure is!
