Xolo Q600s Android Phone Review

XOLO Q600s

XOLO is a rather new Indian manufacturer that delivers quality handsets on a given budget. They already have the quad-core powered Q700 and Q800, which are quite popular under the 10K price tag. XOLO is continually trying to hit that sweet spot and are strengthening it by unveiling its most affordable quad-core device till date, the Q600 S.  Available at an attractive price tag of Rs. 7499 on Snapdeal.

The Xolo Q600 S comes with 1.2GHz Broadcom Quadcore processor with 4.5 inch screen of FWVGA resolution running Android Kitkat OS. This is low budget quad core handset with 1 GB RAM and 4GB internal storage. Is this the one that brings it home for XOLO? Let’s find out…

For its price, I guess the build quality is decent. The glossy back cover does make it look cheaper than it is. The phone itself however is quite alright. It is quite compact and fits perfectly in your palm. The dual SIM phone 147 grams and dimensions are 136.16×67.56×12.30mm. The power button is on right, volume rockers on left and 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB port on the top side.

Nothing to much can be said about the design, which is fairly basic and nothing out of the blue either. Just your average look and feel to the phone. However the phone’s aesthetics are significantly inferior to that of the Q700, which is a Rs.1000 more. So putting in that extra money might be an option that you’d want to consider.

Display & Camera

The 4.5 screen with 480×854 pixels display isn’t very sharp but at the same time you can’t really see the jagged edges either. It is afterall a basic IPS  display. The contrast also is a bit shallow. But overall it is quite a good one for the price-point.

The rear camera is a 5 MP with auto focus which does well in good light, but does terribly in even slightly low lighting. The front camera is VGA which can be used for video chat and video calls but the feed tends to be a bit hazy, so you’ll need to hold the phone incredibly still during video chat.

Performance & Memory

It has an in built memory of about 4 Gb out of which around 1.77 GB is available for you to use. You also have the option for the MicroSD card slot to expand the storage of the device. You should be able move apps on the SD card and can also specify it as default write disk. The battery backup is around 1 day for moderate usage scenario.

For its price tag, I think it does a fairly good job as it is quite responsive. Leaving aside a few instances where it slows down a bit, the Q600 an overall smooth experience. The handset runs on the Android Kitkat OS.

Gaming

This phone  is capable enough to play the casual games, but bigger and heavier games might lag a bit. We played a couple of games and the performance was good, games like GTA San Andreas might lag a bit too.

Batman & The Flash Run is running smoothly.

ROTO is a fun puzzle game which you should check out 🙂

Verdict

Overall a very decent phone which competes well with the MOTO E.  The 4.5-inch IPS display is average and the 5MP camera is decent. 1GB RAM for a quad-core smartphone is a bit disappointing.
