Why The Hate For The Division?

Why The Hate For The Division?

It’s been some time since The Division released and I have seen many hate posts on social media, groups etc. regarding the game. All these posts made me wonder, what was wrong with the game because of which it is getting this kind of hate. Is it the typical Ubisoft game hate? Or something else. This made me do some research, so that I can find the major reasons behind all this.

The most common hate reasons are:

  1. The game was downgraded and the optimization is not good on PC. This is somewhat understandable since I’ve faced this even on my Titan X, which is not able to play the game on constant 60 fps on Ultra (I’m playing on high-ultra with 40+ FPS). Other than that there many other complaints such as the downgrade, since the game looked much better in E3 trailers. Which does not imply that the visuals of the game are bad. The game still amazes me with its graphics and I myself think that Tom Clancy’s The Division is one the better looking games out there. Sadly the optimization still needs some work, but hey there’s been only a single patch on PC so far, therefore it’s better to wait and watch and see what the future holds.
  2. The game has some annoying bugs and glitches, though I haven’t faced any on my PC so far.
  3. Then there are people who are complaining that the game is not enjoyable and the narrative of the game is very feeble. With which I agree completely. The game has a very weak story, I mean the characters and everything are mediocre and don’t have the spark which makes the players think of them. Even during the missions you’ll be asking yourself what the objective is. While I do agree that the narrative lacks the touch, the complaint about the game not being enjoyable is totally wrong. If you’re one of those who are playing the game alone then I must tell you that you are doing it wrong as the game is meant to be played with friends and not alone.
  4. Then there are some players who complain about map size, same enemy types etc., to which I agrees somewhat. The map size might be small for some of us but Brooklyn is yet to be added to the game. Currently the game only features Manhattan. Other than that, yes the enemy types might look the same but still the enemy AI is hard to kill at high difficulty levels as they will flank you and try to kill you. If you’re one of those who play their games on hard difficulty, then to complete the missions you’ll have to be extra tactical and coordinate with your friends, kill enemies and use abilities from cover to cover!

With that being said there are small things that do annoy me, with some of them being enemies spawning whenever the extraction is called even if you killed those 10 seconds back. Then there are some server disconnection issues which are annoying and can be a crucial problem for a game which is always online, luckily I faced only 2 disconnections so far.

All in all Tom Clancy’s The Division is a great game which, in my honest opinion, does not deserve so much hate and all this is coming from a guy who still hates Ubisoft for Assassin’s Creed 3 and Watch Dogs. *shudders*
