RIP PS3 – The Top 20 Playstation 3 Games of All Time

RIP PS3 – The Top 20 Playstation 3 Games of All Time

With the recent news that production for the Playstation 3 has stopped in Japan and with Worldwide production to stop soon, we decided to pay tribute to this great console and list the top 20 games that you can play on this console. This article is based on my own personal opinion so if you see a game that is not there but you think is really good, let us know by commenting.

The Last of Us

A game with the ability to move you to tears in the first half an hour that has fantastic gameplay and a gripping story that will leave you feeling very attached to the characters, this is an absolute must play.

Red Dead Redemption

The best Wester-spaghetti game that you can play, this console exclusive is one of the games that PC gamers are dying to play and with a sequel in works, it might be time to replay this.

Demon’s Souls

The first of the “Souls” series, even though it is set in a different universe the core mechanics and gameplay still remain the same, so if you’re itching for more Dark Souls, this should quench that thirst. For now.

God of War 3

One of the best in the series, God of War 3 brings back that brutal combat and gives the story of Kratos’ war with the God’s an end. Until of course he fights the Nordic Gods in the upcoming game.

Uncharted 2

Another great console exclusive, Uncharted filled the gap that was left by the absence of Lara Croft and it did a phenomenal job of doing so. With Uncharted 4 serving as an end to Nathan’s story, why not revisit him in the prime of his series.

Bioshock

The first time you enter Rapture has to be one of my fondest gaming memories. With such a great setting, great gameplay, eery atmosphere and amazing characters, Bioshock is an amazing game that quite honestly took people by surprise with how good it was.

Grand Theft Auto V

Probably the top most sold game for this console that came when the PS4 was just around the corner. Even though the PS3 was old, this game was absolutely fantastic in every way and the multiplayer led me to make a lot of new friends.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriot

Another Kojima masterpiece, Metal Gear Solid 4 continues the story of Solid Snake in the Present/Future. If you liked MGS 5 and want more of the Metal Gear story you should absolutely play this game.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

The game that took the Call of Duty franchise to new heights with characters that we all love, a story that actually got people interested and the multiplayer that changed everything. This is one of my favourite games in the CoD franchise.

Batman: Arkham City

One of the best superhero games out there. In terms of story, this game is the best in the series and one of those few games that I actually completed 100% because I loved the game so much.

Journey

One of those rare games where the title perfectly describes the game. It is a journey that you take with a companion who guides without any communication. The companion is someone else who is playing the game and you don’t know who there are until the very end of the game where it shows you the people who guided you.

inFAMOUS 2

An open-world super-heroesque action adventure game where you decide if you want to be a good guy or a bad guy. A game similar to Prototype, this game was a lot of fun to play and the reason I chose over the prequel is because of the more in-depth exploration of the city and the story.

Killzone 2

A great shooter with a really good story line and visuals for its time, Killzone 2 was highly anticipated and it delivered. If you don’t know what this game is about, it’s basically about fighting Nazis in the future.

Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

Ratchet and Clank games have always good platformers and this one does justice to its name. A fun action adventure platforming game that you can enjoy.

Heavy Rain

Winner of the BAFTA Award for story, Heavy Rain is written by David Cage who is also the writer for the upcoming game, Detroit: Become Human. If you want to get an idea of what David Cage’s games are like, you should give this a try.

Yakuza 4

With Yakuza 0 slowly gaining popularity and bringing people to the series and with Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 6 on the way, satiate that hunger for Yakuza games with Yakuza 4 which is also a very fun Yakuza game and features a more older and badass Kiryu.

Vanquish

Platinum Games’ fantastic third-person shooter is an absolute blast to play. With fast paced combat and running around in an Augmented Reaction Suit that’s basically an exoskeleton that allows you to do cool stuff.

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

Eventhough there are games like Tekken and Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter 5 is a very fun and competitive game to play. If you like fighting games, you should really check this out.

Little Big Planet 2

A puzzle platformer with a ton of user generated content, this game has a lot of levels that are very innovative and wacky.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

A game by Studio Ghibli, the studio who made Spirited Away. The game has beautiful visuals and a wonderful soundtrack. It also has a sequel coming up so that’s more incentive to try out this game.

That sums up my personal favourite list of the 20 best PS3 games. Let us know what games that weren’t on the list that are your favourites by commenting.
