GTA 5 is the fastest selling entertainment property ever, according to Take-Two’s estimates. The game has brought in more than $1 billion in its first three days on store shelves, after selling more than $800 million on its first day. The Avengers film surpassed $1 billion in ticket sales ten days after its release in the U.S. and most other countries, according to Guinness World Records. A copy of GTA 5 costs significantly more than a movie ticket, of course, and cinema sales aren’t weighted nearly as heavily toward their first day as game sales. When Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in April of 2008, it waited roughly seven months to bring the title to PC.
