No Man’s Sky Accused Of Using Patented Equation Without Permission

Only a month before it’s launch, No Man’s Sky in the news again, this time under the accusation of using a patented equation without the permission of the owner. Telegraaf reported that a Dutch company by the name of Genicap owns the “Superformula” used by the game for procedural generation of its 18 bazillion or so planets, for which the developer Hello Games did not obtain the licenses. “We haven’t provided a license to Hello Games,” Jeroen Sparrow of Genicap said. “We don’t want to stop the launch, but if the formula is used we’ll need to have a talk.” Genicap hasn’t seen No Man’s Sky’s source yet, so the validity of the claims cannot be verified yet.
