Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the removal of the PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement for certain single-player PlayStation games on PC. This change applies to upcoming releases like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, as well as existing titles such as God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.
Instead of making a PSN account mandatory, Sony is now encouraging PC players to sign in voluntarily by offering exclusive in-game perks. These benefits include unlockable skins, bonus features, and special rewards:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 — Early access to the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarok — Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
- The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered — +50 points to activate bonus features and unlock extras, including Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as a skin for Ellie.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered — Access to the Nora Valiant outfit.
Sony previously faced criticism from PC players for requiring PSN accounts on single-player games that did not feature online connectivity. The controversy peaked with Helldivers 2, where the mandatory login requirement was added post-launch, leading to widespread backlash. Sony later reversed this decision and has now extended that policy shift to other single-player titles like Ghost of Tsushima and Until Dawn.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to launch on Windows PC this Thursday via Steam, while The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is scheduled for release in April.
