Samsung Launches Galaxy J3 With Nifty Features For Bikers

Today Samsung announced its new phone in the J series, the Samsung J3. Its a budget phone priced at Rs. 8,990, available exclusively on Snapdeal.. However it comes with a neat twist. The ‘S Bike Mode’. Targeted specifically at bikers, its enabled by tapping your phone to an NFC device (a sticker of sorts included with the phone).

This feature is meant to be used while driving a two wheeler, when attending or even being distracted by incoming call could possibly mean disaster. Any caller who calls in while this mode is enabled will be played a pre-recorded message (available in 14 different languages) which informs the caller that you are currently riding a bike.

If the caller has an urgent matter to discuss, he/she can press 1 and only then will the phone ring, and the rider becomes aware of an urgent incoming call. However, the call cannot be attended unless the biker comes to a stop, for safety purposes.

While this feature may not sound like much on the surface, cases of road accidents while using a smartphone are incredibly high. So much so that, a recent bill proposed in New Jersey has asked for a law to be passed that prohibits people even while walking on the sidewalks. This may sound harsh at first, but it has only come to being after deaths having occurred under such circumstances.

It’s a good initiative by Samsung. While there are ways to improve on the same idea, it’s good to have it being implemented. Like the saying goes, better safe that sorry.

On to the specs:

The specs are decent at a reasonable rice point. Samsung has also confirmed that the S Bike Mode will also be coming to its other smartphones in the future.
