Remember When Ubisoft Thought Egypt Would Be A Terrible Setting For Assassin’s Creed?

Back in 2012, when work on Assassin’s Creed: Origins had not yet started, developers at Ubisoft actually did not think that an Egyptian setting would work in the game. Egypt and Japan have been some of the most requested settings for Assassin’s Creed by fans of the franchise. However, series creative director Alex Hutchinson, thought that these are terrible ideas.

“They’re kind of the three worst settings for an AC game.” He said, speaking in an interview. “People on the internet suggest the most boring settings.”

I am really glad that the game Director for Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Ashraf Ismail, felt differently, and went ahead with Egypt, which turned to be an absolutely fantastic setting.

I still really want to see an Assassin’s Creed game set in India, which incidentally, Hutchinson is also keen to do.

“[Assassin’s Creed 3 writer Corey May] really wants to do India. I would too. I’d really love to do the Raj,” he said.

It’s interesting to see the franchise evolve and step into unknown territories over the years, and I am excited for the series’ future.

  1. Egypt : Best idea … so sad they wreck that idea by chosing the worst combat mechanics combined with most antipathetical and boring character and poor story line … Side quests, thats a story on its own.. Side quests always gave me like another enjoyable way to play more of the game when i finished story and was sad that it ended.. side quests in AC:O it is not that case.. i literally did 5 side quests and when i realised they are all the same except with different people in different places… since then i only did main story line… and even that bore me enough to stop playing after about 12 hours and made me go back to shop wanting my money back. They bought back the game and i was leaving the shop with AC 4: Black Flag instead which I enjoyed so much back in days of its release so i am on my secon playthrough and though the game is 4 years older than AC:O.. its better in every way.
