Earlier today Sony through its Tokyo Game Show conference today, Project Morpheus was officially renamed as PlayStation VR. The new name of Project Morpheus was announce by Atsushi Morita, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan.

Via Tokyo Game Show Atsushi Morita said, “Sony will make PlayStation VR device a sensation, the idea of renaming of PlayStation came into existence since we thought “PlayStation VR” not only directly expresses an entirely new experience from PlayStation but also takes the players into the virtual world of reality. ” In a statement Sony said,”PlayStation VR will be the future of games and the name reflects our hopes, passion and love on PlayStation that we want our users to feel a sense a familiarity as they enjoy this amazing experience.”

We had to turn down more submissions from third parties and first parties so as to build this hardware a hit.” Sony also announced that it will bring a consumer Playstation VR in Q1 2016, but nothing more spoilers have come out yet.

The hardware is rumoured for the lowest possible cost since in an interview Sony said,”Since it’s a console business, we will try to provide the hardware at the lowest cost so that more games and customers can come in.”

Sony revealed several virtual real projects in a new trailer with the name of PlayStation VR. Sony confirmed that Square Enix’s new Final Fantasy XIV Online, Aquarion Evol, Danganronpa, Hatsune Miku, Tekken 7, Summer Lesson and Cyber Crime will be compatible with Sony PlayStation VR.

Meanwhile a question arises, Why Project Morpheus was renamed to PlayStation VR? Though Morpheus is the name of Laurence Fishburne’s character in The Matrix and the name Morpheus means God of Dreams, Project Morpheus was a fitting name for the device. What do you think, Is Project Morpheus a fitting name?
