The tenth generation of Pokémon games may not be on the horizon yet, and Pokémon Legends Z-A is still some time away, but Pokémon Scarlet/Violet continues to keep players engaged with its expansive content. Despite its popularity, the game has faced significant performance issues due to the limitations of the original Nintendo Switch hardware.
With the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, an enhanced update for Pokémon Scarlet/Violet is set to improve the game’s performance and visual fidelity. The Japanese version of Nintendo’s official website has listed the game among those receiving enhancements for the new console.
What to Expect in the Update
While specific details haven’t been revealed, the update will likely include:
- Improved Frame Rate: Smoother gameplay experience
- Higher Resolution: Sharper visuals and textures
- Overall Performance Upgrades: Reduction in pop-in and stuttering issues
Other Games Receiving Free Updates
Alongside Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, several other games will also benefit from enhanced updates on the Switch 2, including:
- ARMS
- Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker
- Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Soft Brain School – Let’s Stretch Our Brains Together
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
These updates will be available for free to those who already own the games, with additional titles expected to receive similar treatment.
Paid vs. Free Updates on Switch 2
Nintendo has introduced two types of enhanced updates: free and paid.
- Free updates will improve performance and stability at no extra cost.
- Paid upgrades will be available for select titles like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, offering additional features such as HDR support, enhanced resolution, and quality-of-life improvements.
Players who upgrade to the Switch 2 will also have the option to pay for enhanced versions of games such as Metroid Prime 4, Pokémon Legends Z-A, and Mario Party Jamboree, similar to next-gen upgrade fees seen on PlayStation and Xbox.
Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date
The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release on June 5, 2025. The first game announced for the system is Mario Kart World, which will serve as a major launch title.
Further details about these enhanced updates may be revealed during Nintendo Treehouse Live events on April 3rd and 4th. Stay tuned for more information as Nintendo shares additional insights into the future of its upgraded game lineup.
