Playstation Neo May Be Coming Earlier Than You Think

According to reports by Vice and Gameblog, Sony will officially unveil and upgraded Playstation 4 at an event in September. Both reports state that the event is currently scheduled to be held in New York on 7th September, 2016, putting it just in time for the Tokyo Game Show, which kicks off on 15th September.

Further details about the event and any announcements haven’t been revealed yet. However, if the reports are correct, then Sony should be sending out the invites for the event soon, considering it is less than a month away.

Earlier also, according to Gamespot, there have been reports than the next Sony  Playstation console, codenamed Neo, could very well be released before the end of the current year. However, there was some speculation about those plans being put on hold due to Microsoft’s announcement of their next big console, Project Scorpio.

Sony had confirmed in June that it was indeed, working on a new, more powerful version for the PS4. However, instead of completely replacing the current gen Playstation, it is intended to compliment it, as is the case with the Xbox One and Project Scorpio (along with the newly launched Xbox One S). All the PS 4 games that players own today will be playable on the PS Neo and the current console. However, Sony did say that it will take a “small but manageable” amount of effort for the developers to get the games working on both platforms.

As both the major companies are moving towards a mid-cycle hardware upgrade instead of a complete overhaul, it will be interesting to see the effect it has on the current libraries and future titles that are released.
