Renowned rapper, teacher, and gaming icon Mega Ran has released a heartfelt tribute single, “Sam Lake,” honoring the legendary game creator and 2025 New York Game Awards Legend Award winner, Sam Lake (Max Payne, Alan Wake). The song not only celebrates Lake’s contributions to gaming but also serves as an anthem for all creators striving to overcome challenges and push forward against the odds.
Mega Ran, who wrote and produced the song under his label Random Beats, first performed “Sam Lake” live at the sold-out New York Game Awards in January 2025 at the SVA Theatre. The track has since been officially released across major streaming platforms.
Sam Lake himself expressed his gratitude, saying, “I feel honored and blessed to have a song built for me by Mega Ran, and I want to shout out all the fierce and brave creators out there building new worlds.”

Supporting the Next Generation of Creators
In a move that aligns with the song’s message of perseverance and passion, Mega Ran has pledged that 50% of all proceeds from “Sam Lake” will go to The New York Video Game Critics Circle. This non-profit organization runs the Playing With Purpose program, which connects students with industry professionals for mentorship and internship opportunities. The initiative has helped young talents gain valuable insights from gaming icons such as Reggie Fils-Aimé (Nintendo) and Phil Spencer (Microsoft).
