The world of Overwatch is undergoing big changes. Something is happening in Numbani. The gauntlet is gone, and it all points to one thing: Doomfist.
Blizzard tweeted a new teaser image to the Overwatch acoount recently, featuring the Numbani spawn area, where the airport terminal seems to have been severely damaged and destroyed. The tweet reads, “[BREAKING] OR15 defense units destroyed in confrontation with unidentified assailant at Numbani airport. No civilian casualties reported.” One noteworthy thing, is that one OR15 defense has been punched right into a wall.

In the original Overwatch cinematic trailer, Widowmaker and Reaper try to steal the Doomfist gauntlet, but are stopped by Tracer and Winston. That gauntlet has been kept safe within the payload vehicle at Numbani, but in the update, there are some significant changes. The destruction of the airport terminal can be seen in-game as well, and more importantly, the Doomfist gauntlet has been stolen from the payload vehicle.
Eariler last week Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan had said that things are going to unroll very quickly for the next hero, and “over the course of next week people are going to learn some of the cool stuff that Efi has built.” For those who don’t know, Efi is an 11-year old robotics and AI prodigy that was revealed to the fans in another teaser last week. Apparently, she plays a crucial role in the game’s expanding roster or heroes.
So, what does this mean for the fans? It’s likely that someone now has the hold on the Doomfist gauntlet, and soon players will have to battle against a new thread. Players are speculating that they’ll face Doomfist in a new PvE mode, and Efi will end up creating something to tackle the threat, bringing in the game’s 24th playable hero.
