Is Assassin’s Creed Comet set in Ancient Rome?

Well most of us here in India are stuck with the last gen of consoles 🙂 So when there is news of a probable Assassins Creed Sequel for the platforms we jumped to it. So to start with Assassin’s Creed Comet – a second Assassin’s Creed title rumoured to be in development for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this year – may be set in Ancient Rome, judging by comments made by Ubisoft Toronto head Jade Raymond.

Discussing the series success with Canadian website The Grid, Raymond attributed its popularity to letting players take on the role of “a badass assassin”.

“But then there is an additional element of getting to relive and play a role in these pivotal moments in history,” she continued. “We work with historians to recreate these societies — ancient Rome, the French Revolution. And because each game is crafted in a new era, players don’t get tired of the it.”

The French Revolution, of course, has already been confirmed as the setting for next-gen exclusive Assassin’s Creed: Unity. The setting for Comet, however – if real – has yet to be revealed.

Will it be set in Ancient Rome this time ?

Rome featured as the setting for Assassin’s Creed 2 and 2010’s Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. But Raymond’s reference to Ancient Rome could suggest an altogether different time period.

It is worth noting that Comet may also refer to Caesar’s Comet, a major event in Roman history that saw one of the brightest recorded comets pass by the Earth at the time of Caesar’s death. The comet also spawned “a cult of the comet”, known as the “Temple of the Comet Star”, and featured on some Roman coins.

Prior rumours from Kotaku, however, suggest that Assassin’s Creed Comet could be set in North America. Kotaku also correctly revealed Assassin’s Creed Unity prior to its official announcement.

So only time will tell if we all set for yet another Assassins Creed set in Rome 🙂
