Hyper Light Drifter – Review

Hyper Light Drifter – Review

Hyper Light Drifter, is an old school of old school looking game, with pixelated graphics and 2D animation; even so Hyper Light Drifter creates a brilliant gameplay experience through an amazing story and tweaked up combat mechanics. The visuals though old school capture you through it’s trippy colours and beautiful audiotrack.

It explores the theme of a man’s quest through a broken and deserted world, with high maturity and great attention to detail making it a treat for the player. The sleek combat with smooth and diverse attack moves pulls together a meaningfully challenging way through the story. The combat moves vary from long range attack to melee attacks to dash move, all set so tightly over the controls that the combat is satisfying even if difficult. Though story remains elusive to the end asking the player to interpret through the setting to fill in with clues. Though this might cause the story to not pay off for many who might not understand it, it is amazing to see games taking such bold steps and doing what mediums of literature have already attempted.
