Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut – Review

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut – Review

Score – 9/10

Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima was the perfect send off for the PS4. It was one of the last games for the last console generation, and quite a memorable one at that. With a beautiful world, memorable characters and its unique approach to the open-world exploration, it rightfully stood out from the crowd of other big open-world titles. More than that, it was a testimony to the power of the PS4, and Sony’s dedication to the games and studios under its wings.

With time, the studio has added more content to keep the players coming back, including a free co-op mode called The Legends. In addition to the impeccable single-player mode, players can enjoy Ghost of Tsushima with their friends as well. And now, we have the Director’s Cut, the rightful treatment with Sony’s new PS5.

In the latest version of the game, we find a whole new location to explore – Iki Island. It’s just as breathtaking as the original location of Tsushima, and to make things interesting, some of the supernatural elements that were first introduced in the Legends mode are also present. It brings along with it new challenges, a new progression system and a whole plethora of things to keep you engaged.

Now, don’t worry, just because there is a new progression system, it doesn’t mean that all the upgrades and gear you obtained in the base game is useless. In fact, you get to keep almost all of it. But you do need to re-learn some skills. And there are a few new ones as well, one of which is our favourite – the horse charge. The level of enemies on Iki Island has been adjusted accordingly to keep the challenge up, so you will have to be on your guard. Add to that a whole new story arc, and you’re looking at a good few hours of fun.

Players who are returning from the PS4 version will also appreciate the PS5 features that have been fully supported now in the Director’s Cut. From visual enhancements to the Dual Sense’s adaptive triggers, the game makes full use of everything that the PS5 has to offer, making it a worthy purchase for both new and old players. The only complaint we have with the new version is perhaps a lack in enemy variety, but since that’s a very small element of the new content, it can hardly be considered a deal-breaker.

Director’s Cut Edition features all additional content released to date, as well as brand new content:

  • Full game.
  • Iki Island expansion: New story, mini-games, enemy types and more.
  • Legends online co-op mode.
  • Digital mini art book.
  • One Technique Point.
  • Charm of Hachiman’s Favor.
  • Hero of Tsushima Skin Set: Golden Mask, Sword Kit, Horse, Saddle.
  • Director’s commentary: The creative team sits down with a renowned Japanese historian to look at the world of Ghost of Tsushima and how it compares to the real-life events that inspired it.

Venture beyond the battlefield to experience feudal Japan like never before. In this open-world action adventure, you’ll roam vast countrysides and expansive terrain to encounter rich characters, discover ancient landmarks, and uncover the hidden beauty of Tsushima.

Explore meticulously-crafted regions showcasing diversity of life on the sprawling island—from billowing fields and tranquil shrines to ancient forests, villages and stark mountainscapes. Find peace in the quiet moments of natural harmony and solace in the moments you’ll share with the people you help along the way.

An adaptive landscape and organic approach to combat makes Tsushima the perfect playground for mixing and matching skills, weapons, and tactics to find the perfect combat blend for your play style. As Jin’s story unfolds, versatility and creativity will become your greatest weapons.
