Games Of The Month: January 2016

If you’re one of those who completed every major game release from 2015, then the new year might be looking a bit bleak for you. Well, worry not, here are some of the top games releasing in January, 2016. There’s not much in the way of huge open world games, but these are great games nonetheless. And we really could use some tightly woven narrative driven games. Anyways, here goes!

Assassin’s Creed India | Ubisoft

Platform: PS4, Xbox One
Release Date: January 12, 2016

The first game coming to both PS4 and Xbox One is Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India. Further expanding the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles line, this new adventure sees players jump into India in 1841. Taking a 2D approach, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India is a departure from traditional Assassin’s Creed gameplay, but also furthers the Assassins vs. Templar storyline all over the world. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India is releasing on Jan. 12.

Gone Home | Fullbright

Platform: PS4, Xbox One
Release Date: January 12, 2016

The next game coming to both Xbox One and PS4 is Gone Home. This indie game has already seen great success on PC, and is now making the jump to consoles on Jan. 12. If you haven’t experienced Gone Home yet, do yourself a favor and play through it.

The Banner Saga | Stoic Studio

Platform: PS4, Xbox One
Release Date: January 12, 2016

Speaking of indie games jumping to consoles, The Banner Saga is also coming to Xbox One and PS4 on Jan. 12. This beautifully animated game features deep tactial gameplay along with a choice system that will force players to live with their consequences.

Gemini: Heroes Reborn | Imperative Entertainment

Platform: PC, Xbox One
Release Date: January 12, 2016

Based on the new television show, Gemini: Heroes Reborn sees players take on the role of Cassandra, a superhuman. Equipped with all sorts of special powers like telekinesis and time travel, you’ll have to solve a mystery while also fighting for your survival. Gemini: Heroes Reborn will be coming out on Jan. 12 on Xbox One and PC and Jan. 19 on PS4.

Lego Marvel Avengers | Traveller’s Tales

Platform: PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PS Vita
Release Date: January 26, 2016

The next game in the ever-popular LEGO series of games is also coming next month. LEGO Marvel’s Avengers will follow the adventures of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and more as they do battle across New York City. LEGO Marvel’s Avengers will be releasing on Jan. 26.

Amplitude | Harmonix

Platform: PS4
Release Date: January 5, 2016

Also coming to PS4 on Jan. 5 is the rebooted Amplitude. Made by Harmonix, this music-based game has players blasting beats away using sci-fi space ships. Featuring over 30 new songs, Amplitude looks to take the classic gameplay of the original release, and bring it up to date with new modes and more.

The Witness | Thekla, Inc.

Platform: PS4
Release Date: January 26, 2016

Probably the most interesting looking game coming out next month, The Witness looks like a modern take on Myst. Players can expect there to be tons of puzzles, plenty of exploration, and much more. The Witness will be coming to PS4 and PC on Jan. 26 as well.
