The Last of Us gets a ton of love from us gamers and others in the games industry. Now it seems like its influences are spreading further out into the mainstream media. Game Of Thrones is massively popular across the world, and in its latest episode, the show has a direct nod to The Last of Us.

The seventh season of Game of Thrones premiered yesterday, and its first episode, Dragonstone, has a scene 22:30 minutes in where Jamie Lannister tells his sister Cersei Lannister: “We’re the last of us.” This was implying the fact that every other Lannister apart from Tyrion, who’s no longer on their side, is dead. While this might seem as mere coincidence at first, the show’s Producer and Writer David Benioff confirmed that the line was a deliberate nod to the video game. He said that he had sees fans of the show draw comparisons between Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the actor who plays the character of Jamie Lannistor, and Joel from The Last of Us. He then decided that the fans deserved to see an acknowledgement, and hence that dialogue in the show.
The movie for The Last of Us is still in talks, and maybe we might get to see Nikolaj Coster-Waldau play Joel’s character. Meanwhile, there’s been no update on The Last of Us 2, which is currently in development over at Naughty Dog.
