DOOM Updates: New Modes, Guns, Armour and PartyPlay

After the classic center gun mode and the Vulkan API, id Software’s DOOM is getting another update this week. Free Update 2 includes two new multiplayer modes: Exodus and Sector. Exodus is a single flag “capture the flag” mode with a twist; the bases and flags keep moving constantly. Sector is more like a “capture and hold” game mode where one team captures an objective and defends it against the opponents in order to score points. Both the modes will be available to play on existing as well as new maps.

The update will also add some new features to SnapMap, including customizable weapon wheel functionality – so players can carry and select multiple weapons, just like the campaign; jump pads with logic to set distance, speed and direction; 30 brand-new Hell-themed modules; an expanded weapon list; a new playable demon – the Mancubus – as well as a laundry list of improvements to the Community HUB, editor and logic capabilities. As the name suggests, these new features will be available to all the DOOM players for free.

To celebrate Free Update 2 and to get everyone geared up for the annual QuakeCon multiplayer frag-fest in Dallas, Bethesda will turn this weekend into its first DOOM double-XP weekend starting July 29. If you’re looking to unlock an armor suit you’ve been dying to use or want to crack the next echelon, this weekend is a great time to do so.

Coming next week will be DOOM’s first premium multiplayer DLC, Unto the Evil. This DLC will include three new multiplayer maps, a brand-new playable demon called The Harvester, a new weapon (the EMG Mark V pistol), the new Kinetic Mine equipment, a bad-ass robotic armor set with new customization options, new hack modules, taunts and more. Everything in Unto the Evil is will be usable in all existing maps and modes.

Additionally, along with the Unto the Evil DLC, Bethesda will be adding the PartyPlay feature to the game. Thanks to this, if you haven’t purchased the premium DLC and a map comes up that you don’t have, but you’re currently in a party with another player who has purchased the DLC, you’ll be allowed to continue playing. Conversely, if you have purchased a premium DLC pack, anyone in your party can play any of the maps from the DLC as long as they’re with you.

In addition to all this content, Bethesda says they’re working on a lot more for the game – an arcade-style scoring mode with leaderboards, three new free-for-all modes to be released later this summer, including the highly requested Deathmatch, along with additional updates, DLCs and SnapMap features.
