The Division Movie Gets Oscar Winning Director

Ubisoft announced recently that Stephen Gaghan, the director who won an Oscar for Traffic will write and direct the movie based on their game The Division. The movie will start Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain, both of whom have Oscar nominations of their own.

“We are really excited to bring Stephen’s unique vision of the game to film audiences around the globe,” Gerard Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures said in an official statement. To this, VP Matt Phelps added, “We can’t wait for Stephen’s remarkable passion and talent to bring the astonishing world of The Division to life.”

The director himself is eager to work with the Ubisoft and The Division developers Massive Entertainment. “The game has been an enormous success, in large part due to the visual landscape they created, their vision of a mid-apocalyptic Manhattan. It’s immersive, wonderfully strange, and yet familiar, filled with possibilities. It’s also remarkable to be able to collaborate with Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal early in the process. We all feel the story Ubisoft created is more relevant than ever.”

“They’re great guys, exceptionally creative, and willing to take risks,” he said.

There is no news regarding what the story of the movie will entail, when it will start shooting or when it will be released. The latest Ubisoft movie, Assassin’s Creed was released in December 2016, starring Michael Fassbender.
