My Passport X Review: Expand Your Gaming Storage

If you own an Xbox One, chances are you’re racking up quite a collection of games and getting close to the 500 GB storage limit. There is the option of opening up the console and swapping it out for a larger storage drive, but that takes a lot of time — not to mention that opening up the console could void your warranty. Fortunately, Western Digital made an external hard drive just for the console gamer. The My Passport X features USB 3.0 and a whopping 2 TB of storage. The large amount of space should be ample room for a number of titles; paired with the 500 GB of in-console storage, it gives you a total of 2.5 TB. You can also choose to install your favorite games on the My Passport X, so you can bring it to a friend’s house and play titles on their Xbox One without hav...

Reticent Wasteland: Mad Max Review

Mad Max begins and ends the exact same way: with the eponymous hero behind the wheel of a car, alone, speeding toward some elusive destination. It’s the essence of the character, a man who tells himself he neither needs nor wants the responsibility of looking after other souls. It’s jarring, then, when he spends the 40 hours between those two scenes intertwined in the lives of every single survivor of the apocalypse. It’s fun to see all the obvious references, like Max replenishing his health by eating Dinki-Di dogfood, a nod to Road Warrior’s food of choice. But there are more subtle examples, as well. A notable landmark is a giant statue wearing the same robes and holding the same stance as the briefly seen Dr. Dealgood from Beyond Thunderdome. One warlord dwells in a canopied structure ...

Cooler Master MasterCase 5 Review: A Gamer’s Tower

Cooler Master spent considerable time and effort on presenting the Mastercase series to journalists and the media at Computex 2015 and then once again at the Make It Yours Seminar in Delhi, India. As the product is at the core of their brand refresh and new alignment, it is supposed to be the driving factor behind making up some lost ground in this competitive market by offering a fresh, new approach that differentiates it from the competition. Here is what Cooler Master has to say about their newest chassis: At heart, the MasterCase 5 advocates a new relationship that binds component makers and users closer together. Its elegantly smooth, flexible FreeForm Modular System supports multiple outlooks, allowing you to upgrade rather than entirely replace your case as your needs change over ti...

MSI GE62 Laptop Review: A Gaming Beast

When you used to think gaming laptops, it usually brought to mind a heavy clunky piece of hardware, that weighed around 12kg, and couldn’t really be called a laptop, since if you kept those on your laps, they’d burn your thighs to a crisp. However, with today’s modern laptops such as the MSI GE62 that’s no longer the case. Don’t let its thick aesthetics fool you because this is a 15-inch gaming laptop that weighs a mere 2.4kg and has some powerful hardware internals under the hood. When you have a huge form factor it also means you could squeeze more ports into the chassis, MSI isn’t stingy on that and has included a generous amount of input ports, including – three USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI 1.4, one mini DisplayPort 1.2, one Killer Gigabit Ethernet, one USB 2.0 port, and two gold plated aud...

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Review

With all the hype that Kojima has mustered for his final entry in the Metal Gear Solid series, fans and new comers expected nothing short of a masterpiece. Given how spectacular every game in the series has been, defining and redefining itself and the genre every single time, Kojima and The Phantom Pain have a lot to live up to. Well, it’s finally here. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. A Hideo Kojima Game. In every sense. Picking up directly after the events of Ground Zeroes, Snake/Big Boss wakes up from a coma to realize that it’s been 9 years and there’s work to be done. Kept you waiting, huh? No shit! Without much ado, Big Boss decides a course of action, leading him to his partner in crime, Kaz Miller, and to the formation of Diamond Dogs, a rebuilding of MSF, on...

The BenQ XL2430T Gaming Monitor Review

When you’re gaming, speed can mean the difference between winning and losing, which is why most gamers require a blazing-fast PC with lots of graphics horsepower. However, it just doesn’t make sense to pair all that PC hardware with a monitor designed for everyday use. BenQ’s XL2430T is an upgraded version of the previous XL2420T monitor. This monitor’s key usage relies on its gaming performance, featuring a native 144hz refresh rate, which is currently the highest usable native refresh rate available on monitors today. The 144hz refresh rate not only allows much smoother motion clarity, but also reduces input lag if your PC is capable of handling it. One of the strongest points of the XL2720Z was the plethora of connectivity options, and the XL2430T carries over the XL2720Z’s ...

Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition Review

Remember back when the original Gears of War came blasting on to consoles and PCs? You’d stare in wonder and exhilaration as you kicked through doors and mow down enemies. Oh, and that excellent cover mechanism! Remember playing the campaign multiple times with friends! And then taking on the same friends in the competitive multiplayer. That was a good time. And the Gears of War franchise has only grown exponentially since then. And now, it’s all back. And, gloriously so! Microsoft’s remake of the decade old classic brims with nostalgia. And, a macho-sense of action, that never lets up. And, thankfully so. The game, though set in a dark time with the very survival of the human race at stake, is a ton of fun. Be it playing solo, co-op or the frantic competitive modes. Orig...

Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming Edition Review

The GeForce GTX 960 is one of NVIDIA’s recently released graphics card (only the Titan X is more recent). With the GTX 960, NVIDIA brought their super power-efficient Maxwell architecture to the mainstream. This card is based on a new silicon codenamed GM206. NVIDIA’s third chip based on “Maxwell”, the GM206 is supposed to be a successor to the GK106 on which NVIDIA built the GeForce GTX 660. The new GTX 960, however, is meant to replace the GTX 660 and GTX 760 in the product stack as it offers slightly higher performance at much less power draw and noise, with greater room for price-cuts. It also brings some of the new features introduced with “Maxwell” to the masses, such as real-time voxel illumination, MFAA (multi-frame sampled anti-aliasing), Dynami...

WD Black 4TB Desktop HDD Review

We got our hands on Western Digital’s flagship High Performance/High Storage HDD, their Black 4TB WD4003FZEX. And boy is it impressive. First things first, let’s get the obvious stuff out of the way: You can buy two forms of storage these days: SSDs and HDDs. SSDs are blazing fast and leave HDDs in the dust performance wise but cost a lot more too, while HDDs are typically slower but come in massive capacities. So obviously the Black doesn’t compare to SSDs in terms of raw performance. It’s strength lies in the performance it shows seen alongside its four freaking terabyte capacity Now, with that out of the way, let’s dig in, shall we? Build Quality The Black is virtually indistinguishable from other WD consumer drives if you ignore the label. Absolutely nothi...

Batman: Arkham Knight Review

To say that Rocksteady’s final game in the Arkham series, Batman: Arkham Knight was highly anticipated would be an understatement. After being in development for years, does this final Knight (you know what I mean) in Gotham leave your knuckles raw and bloody? Lets find out! (Keeping the PC cluster-f@#k aside, this review will focus on the stable and smooth PS4 version.) Stepping into Batman’s shoes, or the entire suit feels as enthralling as ever for the acclaimed arkham series. Numerous additions and improvements to the free flow combat makes brawling and take downs feel smooth and brutal at the same time.  The bone crunching counters and combos leave you shouting “I’M BATMAN!” And the most welcome addition, the dual combat mode where the Dark Knight teams u...

The GTX 980 Ti Review (Featuring the Gigabyte G1 Gaming)

Well, this took a long time to come! But finally, here is our review of the NVIDIA GTX 980 Ti and the Gigabyte G1 Gaming WINDFORCE Edition GTX 980 Ti. At the risk of giving away the verdict before the review proper, we love these babies. We got two of these cards to get our paws on, one reference and one from Gigabyte, their G1 Gaming WINDFORCE Edition. And we were blown away by the performance, to say the least. Nvidia GTX 980 Ti (Reference) — IT’S ALIVE! IT’S ALIIIIIIIVE! Well, it’s here. And it kicks butts left and right. The 980 Ti features the a cut down version of the GM 2000 GPU present in GTX Titan X and as a result performs within the actual margin of error when compared to the Titan X. Featuring just over 2,800 CUDA Cores and memory clocked at 7GHz, this c...

LEGO Jurassic World Review

The first few minutes of LEGO Jurassic World has you and the characters wide mouthed and gaping at the marvels of science. The screaming and running starts pretty soon though. This is one of the best LEGO games to come out in years and it’s a ton of fun! As the least combative Lego game to date, the four films recreated in block form — Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Jurassic Park 3 and Jurassic World — here swap regularly between the ooh of playing as plastic dinosaurs, and pegging it away from gigantic lizards as fast as blocky little legs can carry you. Which is just as well, because when the fighting does start, it’s far from a highlight. It makes sense: the movies are mostly about humans trying to avoid dinosaurs.  Admittedly, no one comes to this series for the comba...
