Extinction – Review

Take Attack on Titan and mash it up with a fantasy world that is rich with Orcs and you get Extinction. Not the term, but the game. But also actual extinction in the game because Big Boy Orcs are trying to make the human race go extinct. Developed by Iron Galaxy and Published by Modus Games, Extinction is out now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. So is this game a good homage to Attack on Titan and Shadow of the Colossus or is it just a gigantic clone that fails to show up, let’s find out. The game has you play as Avil, who is part of an elite group of soldiers known as the Sentinels who have been tasked to protect cities and kill the Ravenii who are bloodthirsty monsters that are 150 feet tall. You’re one of the last few Sentinel’s left and you must do your best to...

Detention – Review

Horror games are something that I usually steer clear of and are really not my forte. Mainly because most horror games use a lot of jumpscares which is something that I’m not a big fan of, especially since they’re overused and it ends up feeling liking a very cheap way to scare someone. In comes Detention, a 2D horror game with a unique art style that doesn’t jumpscare you to death. Now while traditional horror games are linear level based first or third person experiences, Detention has a unique take with it’s 2D side-scrolling gameplay. Developed and published by Red Candle Games, Detention is now available on Windows, MacOS, Linux, PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. Detention is a game by a game company from Taiwan and is set in a fictitious 1960’s Taiw...

Way Of The Passive Fist – Review

Beat Em’ games are aplenty with varying art styles, settings, combat choices etc but this is the first time I’ve seen such a unique take on a beat em’ up game. Way of The Passive Fist is a more pacifist take on the beat em’ up genre that really piqued my interest. Developed and published by Household Games Inc. It is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. So is this interesting beat em’ up actually any good or is it just fodder for the beat em’ up genre, let’s find out. Way of The Passive Fist is very unique and colorful brawler. In a genre where you have to fight and beat up enemies to progress this game takes a different approach. Instead of having you lead the fight and have you just pummel enemies, it has yo...

The Council: Episode 1: The Mad Ones – Review

An episodic game with a weird and mysterious premise. Sounds like a lot of games in that genre but The Council is actually pretty interesting. Featuring a bunch of interesting characters some of which are quite famous historically. The game’s genre itself is said to be “Social RPG” since the core gameplay really depends on how you socialize with characters and the world which effects your story. The Council- Episode 1: The Mad Ones is out now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. So is this weird yet interesting game worth your investment or should it just be cast away, let’s find out. The Council is a game that is set in 1793 and begins as our player character Louis de Richet, a member of a secret society is on his way to a private island off the coast of England...

Owlboy – Review

The fruition of a decade’s worth of labour has resulted in a game that is an absolute master piece. Owlboy is the vision of Simon Stafsnes Andersen with a lot of inspiration coming from Nintendo games which Andersen was a big fan of. The game has been developed and also published by D-Pad Studio. The development first started in 2007 and was scraped and restarted multiple times much to the dismay of the fans while also taking a toll on Andersen’s mental health. So after a decade’s worth of wait, let’s see how Owlboy does. Owlboy is a dungeon exploration type platformer game that really deviates a lot from the norms of the genre. You play as Otus a mute young human-owl hybrid who can fly, roll and spin but can’t do much besides that. The unique take of this gam...

Bridge Constructor Portal – Review

Take two very interesting puzzle solving games and this is what you get. Bridge Constructor Portal is a game which can be described as the offspring of Bridge Constructor and Portal. Now, both those games are great on their own and both have very unique and interesting takes on gameplay. Developed by ClockStone and published by Headup Games this game is available on most major platforms which includes Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, iOS and now is being realeased on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So is this game a good mashup of the ideas of both these games or is it just a weak bridge that fails from holding onto the expectations of fans of both these titles, let’s find out. Bridge Constructor Portal is first and foremost a Bridge Constructor game with the Portal s...

Surviving Mars – Review

With Space Travel becoming more and more efficient by the day, we can look forward to one day travelling in space. Not to mention, with so much data and information about Mars that we possess today we can really use that to create more accurate and realistic fictional media. And so comes in Surviving Mars, a game quite literally about surviving on Mars. Developed by Bulgarian Haemimont Games and published by Paradox Interactive, Surviving Mars is a survival based simulation and resource management game that is out now on Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom – Review

Rarely do we ever see a sequel to a game that improves on everything from the prequel and then some. Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is one of those very rare titles. This JRPG game takes you on a wonderful journey across a variety of locations and while being arguably one of the best JRPGs to have come out in recent times, it has its own identity which makes this game all the more better. Ni No Kuni II is out now on the PlayStation 4 and Windows platforms. Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is a standalone sequel that you can play without worrying about the events of the previous game. While it does have nods to the original Ni no Kuni game, they’re not so substantial or important that you’ll feel lost or out of the loop. In Ni no Kuni II you take on the role of Evan, a cat earre...

Make ‘Hope’ Great Again – Far Cry 5 Review

Tyrannical dictators, a land filled with war and strife and plenty of guns and explosions, Far Cry 5 is back and it is back with an explosive bang. A great someone once described Far Cry 3 as “Skyrim but with guns” and funnily enough 2 Far Cry games later this statement still holds true. Just change it to “Skyrim with Guns in America” and you’ve described this game perfectly. Far Cry 5 is the series’ return to it’s first person shooter focused modern day game after the previous installment in the series, Far Cry Primal. After Far Cry 3 and 4 I was a little burned out on the same formula and after a break in setting and gameplay, its back to its looting, shooting bombastic ways. So, does the new Far Cry actually change things up or is it still the s...

Crossing Souls – Review

A nostalgia trip down memory lane to the 80’s with a lot of references and design to go with it, Crossing Souls tries to take you back to a more simpler time when showing up to your friend’s house unannounced was normal and spending the whole day out playing with your friends and hanging out was routine. Crossing Souls is a 2D action-adventure platforming game with a pixel art art-style and has been developed by Fourattic and published by Devolver Digital. It is available on the PlayStation 4, Windows, Mac and Linux. Crossing Souls has you play as five children living in California in the 80s. On the start of their summer vacation, the five kids find a dead body in a Californian forest and along with the body they find a mysterious artifact whose power they do not understand. T...

Sea Of Thieves – Review

A game made by developers whose name is also indicative of their recent game releases, Rare releases a game that has been highly anticipated ever since its announcement. Sea of Thieves is an open-world action adventure game with a strong focus on multiplayer. It focuses on literal piracy and plundering with some of the best water systems till date. So, does Sea of Thieves deliver or is it just a gorgeous treasure chest that is filled with nothing, let’s find out. Sea of Thieves has you play as a pirate who with his other pirate friends must find and plunder treasure. There’s not really a story in the game other than that. The game focuses mo...

Immortal Redneck – Review

Two words that I never thought would go together, let alone to be the title of a game. Immortal Redneck’s announcement had me puzzled and the title made me laugh because honestly, how freaking wacky of a name is that. I expected it to be an attempt at some sort of a turn based game or a Steam Early Access title but I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the actual trailer. Immortal Redneck has been developed and published by Crema and is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC with a Nintendo Switch version coming soon in the future. Immortal Redneck has you play as an American Redneck tourist in Egypt who wakes up mummified and doesn’t remember how he got there, how he died or anything related to the accident. He’s also immortal which plays well into the main ...
