Shadow of the Colossus Remake – Review

Thirteen years ago one of the best games for the PlayStation 2 was released. It was a magnificent game that pushed the PlayStation 2 to its absolute limits in terms of graphical fidelity. Shadow of the Colossus has gone down as a technical marvel but also as one of the best games of that generation. Thirteen years later, Bluepoint games have brought to the current generation of consoles one of the best remakes to have ever come out. The Shadow of the Colossus Remake is a game that has been completely remade from the ground up to provide the best experience that a player can get. Shadow of the Colossus features sprawling landscapes and humongous Colossi that even on PS2 graphics were absolutely breathtaking. With the remake, it has been taken to the next level. The world has been recreated ...

Gang Beasts – Review

Chaotic, laggy slapstick fun is the best way to describe Gang Beasts. We’ve been hearing about it and playing it ever since 2014 but it got out of Early Access at the end of 2017 and finally released on Steam and the PlayStation 4. Gang Beasts is a free for all brawler game. You are pitted against a bunch of other people in a “King of the Hill” type match where the last player alive wins the round. The game is nothing special in terms of graphics with some customization options when picking your character but that’s about it, more about that later on though. Gang Beasts’ bread and butter is the co-op multiplayer. You fight your friends and the controls in Free For All match. The somewhat stiff controls and physics of the game result in a lot of hilarious and u...

Planetbase – Review

Planetbase as the name suggests is a game about bases on a planet. You lead a team of colonists and robots who are on a mission to colonize a remote planet. It is a strategy game with a survival aspect added to it. The game features four planets, each with increasing difficulty. The second, third and fourth planets can only be unlocked after reaching a certain number of “milestones” which are essentially achievements or goals that you must achieve on a planet. Planetbase has a learning curve that will take you a few attempts to get used to because of how quick and easy it is to die, especially on the later planets but once you do get past the initial stages of setting up a base to produce power, water and oxygen it gets easier. However once you start expanding your base further...

Wulverblade – Review

Brutal, bloody and barbaric, Wulverblade is a 2D side-scrolling beat ’em up set in 120 AD during a time when the Roman Empire was trying to conquer Britain from the South. With a very colourful yet dark artstyle, it blends the cartoon-y artstyle with a very authentic representation of the war-torn lands during that time period. Character sprites are made in 1080p to have clarity and sharpness and is good but at times can feel a bit too cartoon-y for a game that is so gritty. The whole art style is beautiful and portrays the time period and setting really well, however some might feel it looks like a well done flash game but dont let that fool you since it is quite brutal with execution moves and lot of blood and dismemberment that doesn’t look gruesome with the artstyle but it ...

Revere Automata – Iconoclasts – Review

A lot of 2D action platformers these days are heavy on their Metroidvania and Roguelike inspirations. Very few of them have a compelling narrative to them. Fewer still are able to merge that strong narrative and tight gameplay into one excellent package. Welcome to Iconoclasts – a game that has been seven long years in the making, and the final product more than shows the work that has been put into making it. You play as Robin, a mechanic without a licence in a world where machinery and technology are intertwined with magical forces revered in the hearts and minds of the common folk. Without her licence, Robin, becomes a target of the game’s central authoritarian powers, and she then sets out on a path that could shake the very foundation of the world. It’s a heavy plot that builds ...

Track. Hunt. Kill. Repeat. – Monster Hunter World – Review

As you walk through a narrow path covered with the underbrush and finally emerge atop the edge of a large plateau rife with majestic creatures, it’s hard not to have your breath taken away. Monster Hunter World is a game that is not just about hunting monsters, it is also about a deep reverence for the act of doing so. There’s a sense of scale and beauty here that is unmatched, which makes Monster Hunter World easy to recommend even with its many barriers to entry. That’s not to say that this latest iteration of Monster Hunter is not far more accessible than any game that has come before. Sure, you’ll be drowning in menus often, but for the most part, the interface has been streamlined, and everything is fairly well explained. The story starts with you heading to the New World seeking answ...

BallZ Moves – Dragon Ball FighterZ – Review

If you’re any fan of fighting games, Arc System Works will be a name that is familiar to you, and you probably have a deep appreciation for the games that they make. And if you’re a fan of the Dragon Ball series, you will know that they have not seen justice done to them when it comes to video game adaptations. So when Arc System Works gets their hands on Dragon Ball, a franchise screaming for a solid fighting game, you know it’s going to be BallZ.. Dragon Ball FighterZ is an absolutely incredible fighting game, that is entertaining for both low level and high players. How do I know? Because I suck at it, and love it to bits! And I am not even a big fighting games guy. The first thing that stands out about Dragonball FighterZ is how beautiful the game looks. Everything moves at breakneck s...

Advanced Warfare – Tiny Metal – Review

If you’ve ever been a fan of Advance Wars, Tiny Metal will feel like a modern take on that classic game. Developed by Area 35, Tiny Metal is a top-down strategic puzzle game, where you’re leading a charge against the enemy forces across various treacherous terrain. However, the fun lies in figuring out the various solutions to the problems you’re faced with, unlike there being a single solution to the puzzle. One of Tiny Metal’s many strengths is its gorgeous visual style. The characters look blocky, almost like toy/lego characters. And the color palette is vibrant. Bright yellows and greens dominate the screen and it leads to a great look. The core of the gameplay revolves around moving your units forward into enemy territory, and taking over regions. As you take over regions they start p...

Black Mirror – Review

When I first heard about the upcoming game, Black Mirror, I assumed it was based on the popular show of the same name. However, it’s not that at all, instead it’s inspired by the Black Mirror trilogy of point and click adventure games released back in 2003. And it’s actually pretty good. It’s part horror, part mystery, and is laden heavily with gothic atmosphere that will easily suck you in. You play as David Gordon, who returns to his ancestral home in Scotland after the death of his father. There’s something amiss about the place, and the events surrounding the family home, and it’s on you to uncover these secrets. Inspirations from Poe and Lovecraft are immediately noticeable, especially in the writing, tone and the setting. There’s slow exposition, all of which reveals a compelling plo...

Welcome To Virtual Hell – Doom VFR – Review

When I think of 2016’s Doom, I think fast movement and absolutely visceral action. And translating that to VR is no easy task. VR doesn’t usually go well with fast movement, and in your face action might actually be a recipe for nausea. However, Doom VFR is an incredible mix of everything that made the latest Doom great, giving story context to the VR setting and making excellent use of the platform. Hell has never looked slicker, hotter or bloodier in VR as is does in Doom VFR. The shift to VR definitely comes at the cost of noticeable visual fidelity, especially on the PS4 where some pop-in can be distracting. However, this is still one of the best looking VR games you will play across platforms. The custom built levels are brilliantly designed keeping in mind the limitations of the hard...

Oh My Godheads – Review

I’ve always enjoyed couch co-op games, even more so since I moved in with my partner and wanted to play more games with her and with friends who would come over. Oh My Godheads has been an absolutely delightful addition to our collective gaming experience simply because of how easy it is to just jump in, pick a game mode, and have an incredibly fun couch-multiplayer experience. If you’ve played the likes of Bomb Squad, Oh My Godheads will feel somewhat familiar. The twist here is that you’ll be playing with “Godheads”, who often have personalities of their own. An easy example is the game-mode, Capture The Godhead, a twist on the standard Capture The Flag where the flag is a Godhead who will actively resist capture while the other team tries to steal the head away from you. Different Godhe...

Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package – Review

Dead Rising has always been about slaughtering legions of the undead with the wackiest of weapons, and the latest entry in the series doubles down on that with bigger arenas, better weapons, and a badass-er attitude. Let’s take a look at how well the latest entry in the zombie apocalypse slaughter-play-house does in our Dead Rising 4 review. The game is set in Williamette, Colorado, which had also hosted the previous zombie breakout, and takes place during Christmas time, around the central mall where the populace had crowded to in order to satiate consumerism. The mystery in the game revolves around the fact that the citizens of Williamette were supposed to have been vaccinated, and yet got infected. This calls for series veteran Frank West, and his sidekick Vivk Chu to uncover the shady ...
