Nvidia Shield takes a price drop

Nvidia has responded to consumer concerns over the price of its Android-based handheld, dropping the price this morning. Additionally, the company has announced that it will start shipping the units next week. Nvidia was coming to market with its Tegra 4-powered handheld at a price of $349 but  now the price has come down to $299. We expect that the price of the PlayStation 4 ($399) may have resulted in the rethink. It’s not hard to get excited by Project Shield’s feature set, but if you’re not familiar with Nvidia’s Project Shield, it’s an Android-driven mobile device that comes attached to a controller. Nvidia hopes it will help boost Android’s gaming potential and reach new markets, or at least help offer a platform for game makers to deliver better products. On paper the device sounds ...

Xbox One takes a U-Turn

Microsoft has budged to the demands of gamers and the negative press finally!!! Microsoft has changed its policies regarding Xbox One’s internet requirements, used game restrictions and more. Contrary to the details announced earlier this month, Microsoft has now confirmed news originally reported on Giant Bomb that Xbox One will not require an internet connection to play offline games or need to check in every 24 hours; instead, internet will only be required when initially setting up the console. “After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again,” Microsoft wrote. “There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360....

Sneak peek: Assasssin’s Creed 4 Multiplayer Features

In an interview with Eurogamer, a director from Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has elaborated that the game will have a multiplayer mode and that the separate multiplayer features for the single-player part of the game will be completely optional. The connectivity is based on the fact that – unlike in the previous games (on home consoles) in the series – the player doesn’t play as Desmond but as herself. You are a research analyst at Abstergo Entertainment, the company that represents the Templar antagonists to Desmond in the modern day in those other games. You’re researching the life of the protagonist of the historical sections of the game: the pirate Edward Kenway. As part of that, you will have coworkers who are also conducting research, and these coworkers will be r...

Titanfall gameplay preview

This year’s E3 gaming expo has made one thing clear… it’s that we’ve got some serious first person shooters in the pipeline. Titanfall looks to be one such title. In the same year as Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim gets a theatrical release, Titanfall certainly has its finger on the mecha-robot trend’s pulse. Play as a futuristic pilot shooter or gear up and dive into a giant mechanized suit known as a Titan. But you needn’t make that decision at the beginning of the game the  focus has been on seamless integration between one and the other during play. That’s Titanfall’s hook. As a pilot there are certain routes through levels or access points not reachable when suited up, while the inclusion of a jetpack gives plenty of wall-bouncing...

Bark your Orders in Call of Duty Ghosts

Though he practically upstaged the Xbox One at its own reveal event, don’t expect Call of Duty Dog to slink off into a corner. He’s not going to be eye candy or a prop in Call of Duty: Ghosts’ singleplayer campaign. The dog, based on real life service canines used by the Navy SEALs, will be controllable much in the same way drones were in Black Ops. That’s in the singleplayer campaign. No word yet on what role Call of Duty Dog fulfills in multiplayer, if any. Mark Rubin, the game’s executive producer, told Kotaku that “multiple dogs” were mo-capped for the game’s action sequences, and the one in-game will respond to user commands as well as move and act on his own. IGN, in this E3 preview, got a closer look at what Call of Duty Dog does. He&#...

Mclaren and Forza Motorsport 5 team up

The appearance of a Forza 5 on the Xbox One isn’t exactly an unpredictable move. Of course, the challenge is how to improve upon Forza 4 which already looked incredible, had a brilliant single-player structure and genre-leading multiplayer modes, and had some of the best, most convincing handling around. Even the AI was hard to beat. What could Forza 5 add except an extra layer of visual polish? The icing on the cake is that McLaren Automotive has teamed up with Xbox to offer one of the best seats of the summer at the 2013 Festival of Speed: the passenger seat of the McLaren P1™ while it makes its global dynamic debut at the world famous event. One lucky competition winner will be given the chance to experience the famous Goodwood Hill course, and be part of the McLaren 50th annivers...

The next generation of FIFA is coming

As the football frenzy grips the globe, FIFA 14 will be released in the near future on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as current-generation consoles, and according to developer EA Canada, there are a host of changes to the upcoming installment of the football franchise. The most visible change in the upcoming game is the implementation of crowds that are now fully rendered in 3D throughout stadiums. EA Canada is also including exterior shots for the stadiums including Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium. FIFA 14 also has enhancements in physics and AI provided by the next-generation EA Sports Ignite engine. Due to the fact that it can anticipate where players are going to be, it can calculate appropriate interactions and reactions on the fly. You’ll see virtual footballers avo...

Wolfenstein : New World Order Preview

Machine games have provided a small preview of Wolfenstein : New World Order from the Wolfenstein series . Wolfenstein was one of the first FPS games dating  back from 1980, although most of you will be more familiar with the better known sequels, Wolfenstein 3D or Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Machine Games has a great opportunity in hand for reviving interest in this classic title especially after the lukewarm response to Activision’s 2009 release. Wolfenstein: New World Order  takes place in the year 1960 in an alternate timeline where Hitler’s Nazi Germany has won World War 2 and now rules the world. This victory though was not the result of straight forward military tactics but due to the accumulation of various technologically advanced weaponry by the Nazis. The question of how did t...
