Virtual Reality mode added to latest Steam beta

Valve is slowly getting very comfortable with the idea of having a huge video screen being mounted to its face, as it was announced that the beta client of Steam is to add a “virtual reality mode” option. The latest beta version of Steam does away with the “-vr” command line option and replaces it with a button in the view menu, which only appears for those with SteamVR installed when a head-mounted display like the Oculus Rift is detected. Virtual reality is really gaining a lot of attention and is probably going to be the next big thing in gaming. Over the year even Valve has realized this and have made virtual reality their focal point as its former head of VR joined Oculus VR’s new Seattle team around a week ago. People at Engadget think that this week, th...

NVIDIA pulled the wraps off the first GPUs based on its new Maxwell™ graphics architecture

NVIDIA today introduced the first GPUs based on its new Maxwell™ graphics architecture, which deliver amazing gaming performance in extremely power-efficient designs. The new NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX™ 750 Ti and GTX 750 GPUs showcase the ability of this first-generation Maxwell architecture to do more with less. A GeForce GTX 750 Ti running at 1080p resolution doubles the performance and uses half the power of the GTX 550 Ti, which was built with the Fermi architecture, and is one of the most used NVIDIA GPUs, according to the Steam Hardware Survey. The GTX 750 Ti also approximates the performance of the GeForce GTX 480 — a $499 flagship product also based on the Fermi architecture — while consuming only one-fourth the power, or 60 watts. “We know that to advance performance, we must advance p...

Auto Expo 2014

A little out of our thing, but we made a trip to the 12th edition of the Auto Expo in Greater Noida this year. It started on the 7th and ended on the 12th of February. This edition witnessed the unveiling of 70 vehicles out of which 26 were global models. An astonishing 5.61 lakh people attended this event and about 90,000 people showed up on the last day. Luckily we went there on the first day itself and enjoyed a “relatively empty” Expo. There were a whole bunch of Bollywood superstars that attended this years Expo–Priyanka Chopra, brought in by Jaguar, Kareena Kapoor at DC Design, John Abraham at Yamaha, Akshay Kumar at HMSI and Ranbir Kapoor at Hero MotoCorp. And Sachin Tendulkar was brought in by BMW to unveil the i8 which was quite something. We were pretty surprise...

4th Annual Indian Comic Con

So the 4th edition of the Indian Comic Con started off in the nation’s capital on Friday the 7th of February at the Thyagaraj Stadium. The 3 day convention has come a long way since it started out four years ago and has seen a significant increase in comic-book publishing companies in India. There are many small publishers who struggle to get their work out across to people because of the unorganized network which compromises of small shops and booksellers.    So we decided to and take a look at what this annual event had to offer this year. Possibly one of Delhi’s biggest pop culture events, Comic Con was quite a blast. The even took up a new venue this year, after hosting it at Delhi Haat opposite INA market. So that meant there was about 50,000 sq.ft of geeks, nerds, cosplay...

A Headset That Cures Gamer Rage

Visual designer Samuel Matson has come up with an idea which would really be of use to people like us. He has come up with an idea on how to rid the world of gamer rage. And it’s not through the conventional methods of medication, counselling or discipline. It’s simply through prevention. Sounds fairly simple doesn’t it. So here’s the science behind this idea. He’s basically made a headset called Immersion, which uses biometrics to monitor a user’s heart rate. And here’s the insane part, it actually uses the biometrics to adjust what’s going on in a game accordingly. Based on researching a number of gamer’s heart rates while playing a shooter, and using a raw prototype hooked up to an Xbox 360, the Immersion is functioned to gently adju...

It’s official: iBuyPower’s Steam Machine at $499

So only in a couple of days from now will be seeing an explosion of Steam machine news coming from CES in Las Vegas. Even though we already know a lot about it, what still remains unclear is who will plan to sell their own Steam Machines and for what price. We presume iBuyPower should be one of the top contenders. They plan to make a Steam Machine around the size of a PS4, and just a bit smaller than an Xbox One, which will include a multi-core AMD Cpu, 500GB hard drive , WiFi, Bluetooth, and an AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card.       That card alone will set you back $180. If everything pans out then you can get these specifications for about $499 which could pose a major threat to Xbox One sales.

Razer showcases the World’s Most Modular PC Concept Design

There’s no need to try and reinvent the wheel, and some might argue the same applies to desktop PCs. Not Razer, a company that’s best known for its PC gaming peripherals. Razer has set out to reinvent gaming desktops with a modular PC concept that’s currently called Project Christine. The idea is to simplify the processing of setting up a PC, make future upgrades easy, and eliminate obsolescence. At a glance, the renderings look a little like Thermaltake’s Level 10 line. Project Christine takes things to another level with a modular design that makes it super simple (in theory) to swap out modules on-the-fly. The way Razer explains it, a user can slot-in additional graphics modules and add more storage by either swapping out the existing storage drives or adding more modules, all on-the-fl...
