Breath Of The Wild Will Be The Last Nintendo Game For Wii U

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Amie has now confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be the last official Nintendo game for the Wii U.

Speaking to Polygon, Flis-Amie said, “From a first-party standpoint, there’s no new development coming after the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We really are at the end of life for Wii U.”

The Wii U had faced criticism since the beginning due to lack of titles, and as Nintendo prepares to fire all cylinders for the upcoming Switch, it only makes sense for the Wii U to fade to black. Nintendo also said that the older console will still be available for purchase at retail outlets for now, and that Nintendo’s online services won’t be shut down for it.

Though nothing has been said about other publishers and whether they will continue to support the Wii U (not that there were many to begin with), but if first-party titles aren’t there to keep it afloat, it’s safe to assume that Nintendo’s strange little device will be gone sooner rather than later. In any case, at least it will get one last, big adventure, which might just be Nintendo’s best yet.
