Microsoft’s Major Nelson announced the awesome games that Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to download for free to their Xbox 360 or Xbox One (or both) during the month of October.
Starting October 1, Xbox 360 players will get Battlefield: Bad Company 2, EA’s somewhat more class-based approach to the Battlefield series. Generally speaking, it’s a highly acclaimed game.
Then, on October 16, 360 users will be able to download Darksiders II, and action RPG that could appeal to anybody who loves the Zelda series but wishes it was darker. It, too, was mostly a critical success and is well worth the free download.
Xbox One users will be getting only one free game this month: Chariot. It’s an ID@Xbox game (Microsoft’s push to attract indie developers to their platform) that focuses on couch co-op, which is … everything I know about it. Microsoft says, “Players take the role of the brave Princess or her faithful Fiancé as they maneuver the departed king’s coffin-on-wheels through 25 levels set in five vibrant underground environments, with his majesty’s ghost giving them a piece of his mind every step of the way. Filled to the brim with emergent physics-based gameplay, Chariot offers hours of exciting exploration, fast-paced ride sequences and mountains upon mountains of loot!”
Kind of a bummer for Xbox One users since they are only getting one game this month, but to be fair to Microsoft, they don’t have the biggest library of games to choose from right now.
